Despite opening a week ago here in Brazil, I only got to see Rush this past weekend, to coincide with a state holiday on september 20.
Oh yeah, except I didn't, because it was sold out.
Or rather, most of the screenings, on three major movie theaters in three different days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, were sold out, to the point where I simply could not get in. I then started wondering if people would be talking about the movie today, and they didn't disappoint: Either I'm hearing things, or Rush is getting far more attention than Elysium, which opened, I think on the same weekend, or a week after.
And that's the most amazing thing, you guys. People who had never even heard about Lauda or Hunt, casually discussing their rivalry and how they were portrayed in the movie. Folks who had little to no contact with automotive culture in their lives suddenly started discussing the Formula 1 machines of years past, including all of those details we obsess with; the meaty tires, agressive stance, ingenious aerodynamics and the fully exposed, almost obscene looking engines.
I know this isn't something I say often, but, damn, sometimes I can't help but be proud of my peers.
Anyways, what about you guys? How is Rush doing on your local box office? I can't say for sure as I haven't seen any real numbers, but I'll risk saying the film is doing very well here in my area.

It comes out in Canada on Friday. If I have time, I'll go see it.
